Today it is already NINE years ago that Mars released their self-titled début studio album in 2002 with all its great songs on Immortal Records.
30 Seconds to Mars (the album) was produced by Bob Ezrin, Brian Virtue and 30 Seconds to Mars. Two singles have been released from this concept album – ‘Capricorn (A Brand New Name)’ and ‘Edge of the Earth’.
When I think about how far they have come since then it almost feels like a miracle to me.
Giving the fact how long and how hard the brothers Jared & Shannon Leto and Guitarist Tomo Milicevic had to struggle until they finally got the worldwide reputation and the success they have now.
That the three are where they are nowadays did not come as an overnight success.
Oh no! In fact it is the result of hard work and a lot of fights since 1998.
If you ask me, they truly deserve to go platinum with their albums and to sell out arenas all over the world, even if I personally like it the most to hear them playing in smaller and more intimate venues. And I still dream about a concert in a small stone church (which almost happened in Cologne in 2009).
This band is for sure one of the most hardworking bands in music business.
Their actual tour started in November 2009 and will continue until the end of this year.
At least that’s the bands plan. Although if this extremely long journey on the road has begun to take its toll on all three band members by now. Especially on singer Jared Leto, who even risks to ruin his outstanding voice for good to give the audience the time of their lives in every show the band plays.
This band really gives all they can, every time the guys go on stage and still there are people complaining that shows wasn’t as good as they had expected. Those people are not in the slightest bit interested in the fact that often the singer told them during the show how sick he was and that they should have canceled the show, but he refused to do so, to not disappoint the audience.
When I read truly bad reviews of such shows afterwards it makes me so sad.
Because I see the direction this is taking and that the band might end up loosing a lot of the so hard-earned reputation when more and more so-called fans will continue to spread such bad words.
But although I have faith in Jared, Shannon & Tomo that they are actually only consuming themselves by the fire of their passion, later to rise renewed from their ashes with brand-new music after a long pause, just like the Phoenix in their self-titled first album’s logo.
If this makes me a ‘true believer’ I guess, I am one. 😉
But one thing is for sure – they have my love and my support, no matter what.
